CMS’ - Content Management Systems - are the engines that power pretty much every site on the web. In theory they make managing huge sites simple, even for users with little technical ability. In practice, this isn’t always the case.
Fortunately, we’ve found our own little slice of CMS nirvana in Expression Engine. What’s more, we’ve been building sites with it for years and know it pretty darn well.

The redeveloped Horizons site more actively pursues user enquiries and features a wealth of frequently updated content. These and other features have helped to greatly expanded the business’ online profile and have increased the number of leads generated online.
Medsun are an overseas property agent that specialise in investment property. Before the site was redeveloped Medsun were managing several property databases for both online and offline promotion. These have now all been consolidated, saving a huge amount of time and improving the service that customers receive.
Pilotlight are a charity that specialise in putting the expertise of senior business people where it’s most needed. Their site is primarily a resource for information about the Pilotlight system as well as a tool for generating new enquiries. Thanks to a system that enables anyone to update the site in minutes, changes are frequent and the site has been able to keep up with the rapid growth of the organisation.
The SCA Group are a social enterprise that provide health and social care in the South of England. The diverse nature of the organisation had previously resulted in certain areas being under-represented online - the redeveloped site changes this, providing a platform for every area of the business within a simple and intuitive interface.
SearchDowntownLA is a huge database of Los Angeles-based businesses, managed by the LA Downtown News newspaper. Featuring upwards of 20,000 listings the site can be be browsed by category or users can opt to search for the business name or service that they are looking for. Business owners can submit their own entries to the site and customers can post their experiences by adding comments to listings.
Vala Sciences are a San Diego-based biotechnology company that develop and sell software tools for scientists. The site aims to make their complex products as accessible as possible, offering a wealth of information, tutorials and even a forum for end users. Software licensing is also handled by the site, which links into various external databases, automating a process that was previously completely manual.
